I’ll Always Spell it ‘Brugge’
A few exceptions aside, I can’t stay awake through an entire movie to save my life. It’s just another sign of aging, I suppose. Last night was one of those rare occasions that I made it all the way through a movie and enjoyed it. I think that deserves some honorable mention, or at least a footnote to jog my memory in the future.
In Bruges had remained tucked away in its Netflix sleeve for over 2 weeks. Neither DH nor I could recall who put it on the list or why, but I was determined to watch it. Few movies can keep me both laughing and in suspense for more than the first 15 minutes, but this one did just that all the way through. It was unpredictable, humorous, a little twisted and provided for a satisfying conclusion. The European setting was icing on the cake, stirring up warm memories and making me want to pull out old photos to see which landmarks I may have visited.
Since my memory is so poor, I brainstormed a short list of
Other Movies That Didn’t Put Me to Sleep:
Little Miss Sunshine
The Notebook (needed an entire box of Kleenex)
As Good As It Gets (Favorite movie line of all time: “Go sell crazy somewhere else. We’re all stocked up here.”)
The Princess Bride (timeless! Second favorite line: “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die”)
The Fisher King
Unbreakable
Sixth Sense
Death at a Funeral (Hi-larious!)
Pulp Fiction
Being John Malkovich
Idiocracy (Not so far fetched as I once thought)
What Dreams May Come
True Romance
Life is Beautiful
Blair Witch (Probably one more reason I don’t care for camping so much)
The Goonies (favorite movie from childhood)
