A number of people have sought my reaction to the city council’s decision this week. For those who have not heard, they voted to pay the school’s obligation on the high school debt by way of a deduction in their annual contribution and they essentially welcomed the state to intercede and look at our financials up close. Based on the hits to this site over the last few days, it would appear that the curiosity is not limited to just my immediate encounters. So, I’ll make this brief.
It’s about time.
To those who have accused me of tarnishing our school system I would like to say this: Accountability and transparency in government are GOOD things. They are more than good, they are NECESSARY to the vitality of our system, our town and our future. To argue the contrary is both foolish and dangerous.
