It’s Only Money

The regular city council meeting of the month is scheduled for tonight at 7:00. Time for them to spend more of your money. The full agenda is found here. Of note are a resolution to incur $5 MILLION more in debt for the water/sewer issues (which will, in turn, mean another increase in your rates) as well as a request to approve spending $128,442 more of your tax dollars to restore bunkers at the Centennial Golf Course…that’s the golf course that you bought 14 years ago and still owe $4 Million for. You might want to show up and let council know your thoughts on these matters. Please spread the word via email, Facebook, twitter, etc. A better informed & engaged citizenry = better government.

  1. Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to the meeting last night, but I was wondering if that $128k was a new expenditure or something in the budget for the golf courses as someone else has suggested.

  2. The $128K came out of the $450K allocated for maintenance specifically for the golf course. I questioned whether or not this contract would address the root cause (improper drainage). That was not made clear last night, but I’ve since found the RFP and the wording suggests that it does. I understand the need to properly maintain this asset; however, as one council person pointed out, this entire project has been more of a liability than an asset. Thanks for inquiring and for taking an interest in how your tax dollars are being spent.

  3. Thanks for the info! At least it’s not “new” money, although given the history of the course and how little benefit the city seems to reap from it, I guess I have some reservations about the expenditure.
