Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13th at 7:00p.m. at the Municipal Building. Significant items include the waiving of the competitive bid process for over $2 million of various contracts as well as a resolution in support of establishing Oak Ridge as the headquarters for the proposed Manhattan Project National Historical Park. See the agenda packet here for complete details on other agenda items.
****All citizens are afforded a minimum of 3 minutes to speak to council at the beginning of the meeting to any subject not on the agenda. All citizens are also afforded a minimum of 3 minutes to speak to each and every item on the agenda.****
Results from the June 15th meeting, which provides the most recent information on the budget process, are found here and results from the June 1st & 8th are found here. My position on the budget is summed up in my most recent guest column, published in the media so far only by OakRidgeToday.com here.
Regarding the ORPD investigation, last week, upon hearing from the Anderson County and Blount County DAs, the POST commission closed its investigation into whether or not Chief Akagi violated an Order of Protection by carrying a firearm. The letter from POST is uploaded here. Contrary to the insinuations of media headlines, you will read that the POST did not apologize for doing their job, rather they explained to Chief Akagi’s attorney their rules, processes and procedures and politely apologized for the inconveniences of due process. The joint letter from the DAs is uploaded here. Unfortunately, they do not provide a legal basis for their opinion nor an explanation for the contradiction of their opinion with the actual content of Judge Headrick’s court order. The MTAS and the PBA investigations are ongoing with results expected sometime by October.
Though I am not always able to respond to every communication, I welcome your questions and feedback. Feel free to share these update emails with anyone who may be interested in staying abreast of city issues.
